However, they seized the ship just off of Port Royal, and the merchants impacted by the theft hired bounty hunters to pursue Rackham and his crew. WebHe turned to crime fiction in 1921 when he wrote 'Stolen Virtue' and thereafter he wrote 25 twenty crime novels, 17 of them in the golden age of British crime fiction between the two world wars and eight in the 1940s. His final novel was 'Fear Followed On', published posthumously in 1945. Many of his books are set in London. He died in 1944.
